My Swing

Everyone

I finally got a lesson in with RG. When I arrived at White Clay Creek Country Club I was surprised by the country club feel. The cart boy came around and got my clubs when I got out of the car. I just drove up and there he was. Got a ride down to the pro shop. RG video my swing and showed me some stuff I was doing wrong. For instance I was bending with my body which is bad. I need to let my shoulders do all the work. I forgot why the bending was bad. Also I was standing too far from the ball. So I need to drop arms and gently hold the clubs. The other cool thing was RG training tools, he got out the sticks to show me how I should be standing, parallel to the ball. Within an hour or so I was hitting the ball out close to 100 yd with a 7 iron. I learnt that I was standing incorrectly with the driver. With the iron, I should be standing in the center. With my left leg should be inside the ball. In other words I need to stand with my left leg facing the ball. Take a step out to the right and a small step to the left. And I need to hit down. lots to learn!

My First Golf Clubs

Last week (Thursday) I got my first golf club sets, Top Flite. My instructor told me that I had to start with the cheap clubs and work my way up to the better set. Top Flite are the generic Callaway clubs. I tried them on the drive range on Saturday. I made some mistakes because I have never used a full set. I tried my irons, woods and putter.

For my driver I need to place the ball on a tee. It was one reason why the ball was traveling low and fast. Plus I need to remember to spread my legs in other words a wider stance so that I can extend my reach on my stroke.

So much to learn...

$1,000 bag and $10 game

Hi Everyone,

Spent Friday morning on the drive range practicing my swing and putting. While I was practicing putting, I realized why I am investing in golf lesson. Young good looking guy with a really nice set of nike golf clubs (around $800-900 golf clubs) was practicing on the drive range. Every time he hit the ball the golf clubs with ding. I was thinking that he was hitting the ball far. Boy, I was wrong. He had a bad swing form. Every time he hit the ball, he lost his balance. Plus he swung his club like a baseball bat. Every swung, the ball was traveled in every direction. It was frightening. He hit the ball so hard that the ball turned back to the drive range. I was glad that I was not on the drive range. And I prayed for the small animals. To make matters worse, he took a call on the drive range. I wanted so bad to tell him he was in the wrong sport and suggest that he sell his clubs to me. Or perhaps he needed to invest in some lessons. But he did look good. Now I understand the golf ling "$1000 bag and $10 game"

Putting Ain't Easy

Hi Everyone,

This weekend I learned how to putt. My instructor told me that putting was easy. Yes, there is not a formal grip or swing. But it is tough to judge the swing distance to hit the ball. Swing too hard the ball just skips the hole. Not enough , the ball will move and stop like an old arthritic person in the 10 and under line at Safeway.

I missed judged the green and I spent a few minutes trying to get the ball into a hole about the size of can of soup. I thought I was putting in a circle. The ball would not go in the hole! It was truly frustrating. After a few practice swings I was able to get the ball in the hole.

Putting is about shoulder movement not wrist or lower body. And I learned some golf lingo. The short game is about putting and chipping. If you are good with your short game it can save you some points.
